5. The Navajo Nation proudly sponsors the "World's Largest American Indian Fair" - the Navajo
Nation Fair - attracting visitors from around the world. Held in early September each year, the fair takes place
in Window Rock, Arizona, capital of the Navajo Nation, where more than 100,000 people attend the five-day
gala.
One of the highlights of the fair is the all-Indian rodeo, lassoing in more than 900 Indian cowboys and cowgirls
from eight different Indian rodeo associations throughout North America. The Navajo Nation Fair Rodeo offers
competition in all events for both men and women.
The Navajo Nation Fair offers a variety of other events including horseracing, an inter-tribal pow wow, arts and
crafts exhibits of world-renowned Indian artists, Miss Navajo Nation competition, an Indian fry bread contest, a
baby contest, concerts, country and western dances, song and dance competition, agricultural exhibits,
livestock exhibits, food concessionaires, a carnival, and of course, the Navajo Nation parade through the
Window Rock area.
Following the Navajo Nation Fair are other Navajo fairs - the annual Shiprock Navajo Fair, held every October in
Shiprock, New Mexico. This is the most traditional of all Navajo fairs. Other smaller tribal fairs include the
Western Navajo Fair in Tuba City, Arizona, the Eastern Navajo Fair in Crownpoint, New Mexico, and the Central
Navajo Fair in Chinle, Arizona; all usually held in early fall.

6. The Monterey Jazz Festival is the longest running jazz festival in the world. It is held annually on the 20-acre, oak-studded
Monterey Fairgrounds
September 19 - 21, 2008
Fairgrounds Road in Monterey, California. This has been the site of the Festival since its inception in 1958.
More than 500 top jazz artists perform throughout the weekend on 7 stages spread throughout the grounds.
Outdoor stages include the Arena/Jimmy Lyons Stage, the Garden Stage and the Courtyard Stage. Indoor stages include the Night

7. The Whole Enchilada Fiesta is a three-day celebration of southern New Mexico’s traditions, people and great food. The
celebration is centered around the making of the largest enchilada around. Chef and founder of the Fiesta, Robert V. Estrada, combines
southwest ingredients to make the crowd pleasing enchiladas.
For the past 26 years, the three day fiesta has been attracting community members and business people. The event showcases the area’s
finest artists, businesses, organizations and services. Community members are able to interact and enjoy New Mexico in a fun and exciting
environment. The 26th annual Whole Enchilada Fiesta promises to be the best ever. The Fiesta has been recognized as one of the top
100 events in the USA and the 3rd largest in New Mexico. Recent recognition of Roberto Estrada's World Record Enchilada by the
Guinness Book of World Records in England has brought a high level of visibility to The Whole Enchilada Fiesta. Each year over 100,000
people attend from twenty plus states. The Fiesta covers three days and will begin this year on Friday, Sept. 22nd. The Fiesta provides a

10. Albequerque International Balloon Fiesta
October 3rd through 12th , 2008
For nine days in October, the New Mexico skies are painted as hundreds of balloons lift off from Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park. Nothing
rivals the power of Mass Ascension on crisp early mornings as these graceful giants leave the ground to take their place in the cerulean
desert sky. For ballooning fans worldwide, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a pilgrimage. There's something for everyone to

4. Scottish Gathering and Games, which attracts up to 50,000 participants
and audience members, is the oldest continuous Highland Games in the Western
Hemisphere. Event producers will present more than 1,000 musicians, hundreds of
highland dancers, over 100 athletes, and dozens of entertainers. Attractions include:
35 bagpipe bands, U.S. Heavy Events and Caber Toss Championships, 5-A-Side Soccer,
Western U.S. Highland Dancing Championships, Scottish country dancing, Celtic rock,
fiddling, harping, folk music, Children's Glen, birds of prey, sheep dog trials & living
history.
The Games will be held Labor Day weekend, August 30th & 31st 2008 from 8:00
