Where do I pick up my camping equipment?
We ship your gear to you. Shipping is included in the price for the sets to many
destinations in the Southwest USA; Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Salt Lake
City and Denver.
Let us know where you want to start and from where you will be returning the
camping gear and we'll get an estimate to you including any additional shipping costs.
Camping info:
We want to hike into the Grand Canyon and camp on the bottom, can we do
this with your equipment?
The gear that we rent caters to 'car campers'. A standard set for 2 persons weighs about
70 lbs. It is possible to have a mule carry it into and out of the canyon for you. We
recommend against carrying it in/out yourself.
I want to rent camping equipment, how do I do that?
So that you have an idea what the gear you want to rent will cost, fill in and send us the
ESTIMATE form. Within a few days you'll receive an estimate from us. To make a
reservation just send the estimate form at along with any requests for an itinerary back to
us at reservations@westernwanderer.com. We do require a down payment of 10% of
the total rental amount to 'hold' your equipment. The remainder can be paid cash or
with visa/mc at our office when you pick the gear up. We also require a deposit, this can
also be paid cash or use your visa/mc. The full amount is returned to you when all the
equipment is returned.

When should I reserve my camping gear?
We recommend making your reservation as early as possible. We do ask for a 10%
down payment to ‘hold’ your gear. You are then guaranteed that your gear will be
available. If you are making last minute plans, contact Western Wanderer as soon as
possible to be sure that we do have your gear available. We try to accommodate
everyone, and if we have enough time, we’ll purchase additional gear.
How much time should I plan for my trip?
The number one mistake that most first time visitor's to the Southwest make is trying
to do too much in too little time.
Although we understand that most customers are pressed for time, we advise the
following:
- Plan to spend at least two nights at each park. This way you have at least one
full day to discover and enjoy the park. Less IS more!
- Consider the number of miles you will be traveling on your trip. Our experience
is that customers prefer less driving than they originally planned.
- The Southwest is best known for a handful of National Parks, however, there
are many state parks and other attractions that are also worth a visit.
We would be happy to advise you on your trip.
