Lake Mead
Boulder Bay & Boulder Beach in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a 15
minute drive from Boulder City, Nevada. The Lake Mead National Recreation
Area covers 2337 square miles.
Lake Mead is 110 miles long with 500 miles of shoreline. Lake Mead is popular
for fishing, boating, and many other water sports.
Hoover Dam
Built in 1931, it was the largest dam in the world at that time. And at 726
feet it is still among one of the tallest dams in the world.
The Colorado & Lake Mojave
At the northern most tip of the Colorado you can view the Hoover Dam from
the water and experience the power of the water coming through the 30
ton turbines.
Willow Beach is on the East side of the river, about 10 miles below Hoover
Dam. There is a marina + boat rentals, ranger station and convenience store.
Camping is not allowed anywhere.
Cottonwood Cove is on the west bank of the Colorado and offers a marina +
boat rentals, lodging, convenience store, diner, ranger station and camping.
Katherines Landing on Lake Mojave offers a marina, lodging, convenience
store, ranger station and camping.

Camping in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area
At Lake Mead there are campgrounds at Boulder Beach, Las Vegas Wash,
Callville Bay, Echo Bay, Temple Bar and Overton Beach. Backcountry camping is
also allowed along the shore and in designated spots along unpaved
backcountry roads.
There are many possibilities for camping around Lake Mead, on the hundreds of
miles of shoreline. Why not rent a small fishing boat, take along a standard set
from Western Wanderer, and camp on the beach or on onee of the many
islands in Lake Mead.
Along the Colorado you may camp on the shore, although there aren't many
spots, and at Cottonwood Cove.
On Lake Mojave you can camp at Katherine's landing, as well as along the shore.
Most marina's rent houseboats, fishing boats and personal watercraft. The Lake
Mead NRA offers some of the nations best sport fishing. Largemouth bass,
rainbow trout, stiped bass, channel catfish, black crappie and bluegill abound.
Ask the ranger for the 'hot spots'.

At the north end of Lake Mead, it offers amazing red rock scenery in many
psychedelic forms.
