Zion offers a smorgasbord of sights.  The towering Great White
Throne, waterfalls, the Virgin River, calm emerald pools,
extraordinary hanging gardens and 'weeping rocks'.

The name of this park was given to it by a Mormon settler who
called it "Little Zion"

Millions of years ago, Zion was at
the bottom of a shallow sea.  
During the ages the land was
pushed up, leaving Zion to be
formed by rivers and rain water.  
Rust & bacteria are responsible
for the amazing colors you see in
this NP.

Zion harbors an amazing array of
flora en fauna, due to its
extremes in elevation.  About
800 native species of plants are
found in the park, as well as
hundreds of birds, and other
mammels.
July and August are the
busiest months - Zion
receives about half it's
visitors in these two
months!  The best time to
visit, and avoid the
crowds,  is spring or fall.  
Temperatures in the
canyon can rise to 100
degrees during the day in

the summer, and cool down to about 70 at night.  However,
expect far cooler temperatures at higher altitudes.  July and August
are also the 'rainy season', thunderstorms are common, and can
change the gentle Virgin River into a raging torrent in minutes.
