Zion National Park
Zion offers a smorgasbord of sights.  The towering Great White
Throne, waterfalls, the Virgin River, calm emerald pools,
extraordinary hanging gardens and 'weeping rocks'.

The name of this park was given to it by a Mormon settler who
called it "Little Zion"

Millions of years ago, Zion was at the bottom of a shallow sea.
During the ages the land was pushed up, leaving Zion to be formed
by rivers and rain water.  Rust & bacteria are responsible for the
amazing colors you see in this NP.

Zion harbors an amazing array of flora en fauna, due to its extremes
in elevation.  About 800 native species of plants are found in the
park, as well as hundreds of birds, and other mammels.
July and August are the busiest months - Zion receives about half
it's visitors in these two months!  The best time to visit, and avoid
the crowds,  is spring or fall.  Temperatures in the canyon can rise
to 100 degrees during the day in the summer, and cool down to
about 70 at night.  However, expect far cooler temperatures at
higher altitudes.  July and August are also the 'rainy season',
thunderstorms are common, and can change the gentle Virgin River
into a raging torrent in minutes.
To keep traffic problems to a minimum, Zion makes use of a shuttle
bus system.  The shuttle has many stops.  Leave your car at the
visitor's center, or at the campground.

Campgrounds in the park:
Watchman,  South and Lava Point.

Near the park are also a number of campgrounds.
